Jack Sandvig 1927 - 2008

We lost a fellow tequila drinker this week. Jen's grandfather Jack Sandvig passed away Sept. 24th.

As a tribute to Jack we took a trip to one of his favorite stores: Cabelas.

Jack was an avid outdoorsman and always had a good story to tell about his "Lewd and Crude" crew of hunters.

Jen modeling the latest camo.

Can you see me?

Jack was an bow hunter and killed an impressive big horn so this display reminded us of him.

Jack we miss you... give 'em hell up there!

Jen's New Bike

After shopping all around town Jen got a new bike today. We decided to break it in by taking a ride out to Ft. Steilacoom Park.

Jen and I at the old Western State ruins.

Jen right before she went ass over tea kettle into the sticker bushes. Let's just say she didn't want to walk up the hill and was a little too determined to make it to the top.

The damage.

Somehow I've sprouted a tail.. and it looks like I'm wearing a dress too?!

Fun in Reno

I was lucky enough to attend the 2008 Great West Division Relay For Life Leadership Summit in Reno this year. Out of 12 states and 5o0 Relays Tacoma walked away with awards for Top Fundraising event (back on top where we belong!!!), Top Online Fundraising event for a community event (UW won the top online college event!), Second place for most growth in fundraising dollars from the previous year, and Pierce County was the Top Per Capita Fundraising county.

Despite the busy schedule of general sessions and breakout training sessions we managed to find time to go out and have a little fun. Thursday night we took a taxi into town and hit Shooters and then moved onto a casino (can't remember the name) for some Karaoke.

Bob and Matt doing a little Ice Ice Baby.

Yes I know the photo is a little blurry, but it is the only one I have of all of us at Shooters.

Bob and the ladies.

Bob and Monica.

Michelle (looks like she is falling asleep), Cara and me.

Bob and La Marco

Bob trying to lick Ted...not sure what that was about.

Moinca, Bob, Sandi, and I at the Pacesetter Awards Ball! Tacoma hit several benchmarks during the year to qualify as a Pacesetter event which earned us an invitation to a special reception for Pacesetter events only.
Bob's attempt at hair...it worked though. Looks like Matt liked it!
There are more photos than this, but some of them are probably best left off the Internet. If anyone wants a disk of the photos let me know and I will get one to you. Everyone but Matt that is. No slide shows of Reno will be airing at Relay!

We have grass!

Well after...
quite a few weekends,
10 landscape timbers,
20 feet of rebar,
my old truck,
6 yards of dirt,
a million trips with a wheelbarrow,
a pallet of sod,
and the help of family & friends ( Dad, Brian, Paul and Nolan - Thanks!)
...we now have grass!

The yard ninja!

Mountain Biking

Considering the results of my last trip I was anxious to get out again on my bike. Paul and I headed to Ft. Steilacoom where we found some killer single track and practiced our skills.

This time I also managed to conquer the stairs, at least the downhill part!

This pic is from a previous ride but I think it is a good shot.

Grace at the Park

Sine Bob is out of town hunting Mark and I spent some time with Grace so Michelle could sneak away to the gym. The weather was perfect for a trip to the park.

Grace saw a few kids playing baseball across the park and was fascinated. We ended up sitting behind the dugout watching them play for at least a 1/2 hour. She would clap every time they hit a ball.

Kicking back after an hour of playing.

We have entered the Smurf zone!

We never did figure out why she was so fascinated by this big, painted rock, but she sure spent a lot of time looking at it.

Don't worry Michelle we really didn't push her that high in the air! Mark is laying on the ground underneath the swing taking this picture.

Not sure what she was saying, but she was making sure we could hear her non-the-less.

Emergency Room Visit

A quick bike ride in the park with my brother turned into a hour or so after in the ER with a puncture wound in my shin! A little irrigation to clean it out and a few stitches later I was golden.

I tried to tell them a bear attacked me but they didn't believe it. Or maybe it was a shark but they didn't go for that either.

Jen couldn't stand to watch me get my stitches.
