The Story Behind The Name

Why Broken Tequila you ask?  Because I LOVE tequila, it's one of my things.  Thankfully I have never had one of  "those" experiences with it that most people tend to have, no horrible tequila stories for me.

When we vacationed in Mexico we came across a tequila museum and long story short ended up with $500 credit towards any and all bottles we wanted to purchase.  After an extensive tequila tasting experience we ended up with 12 bottles of tequila to sneak bring home.

We knew we were way, way, way over the limit you can fly home with, but figured since it was all "free" lets try it and oh well if it gets confiscated.

We carefully packed the bottles between out two checked bags and hope that they would all make it home, and we wouldn't end up in customs jail.

We made it through customs no problem as did all but one bottle of tequila, the one bottle I really wanted to make it safe and sound.  One of us muttered broken tequila and the rest is history!

Three of the tequilas we smuggled home that trip (all are long gone!) from left to right:

-Jose Cuervo Reserva de la Familia 2007 - in the states Jose Cuervo is considered a low quality tequila, but in Mexico this Reserva Tequila is high class!  Every year an artist is commissioned to design the artwork that will go on the limited edition signed and numbered boxes of one of the most expensive tequilas we have ever purchased...talking triple digits, and it was amazing!

-La Cofradia Edicion Iguanas Reposado 2007 - another limited edition numbered bottle of tequila that (at the time) was only available in Mexico.  To date I have not seen it in the states, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist somewhere.

-Clase Azul Reposado Ultra Premium Exceptional 2007 - Gold Medal Winner and again as far as I know only available in Mexico.

The proper way to drink tequila is in a chilled snifter, no salt or lime, taking your time to savor each sip.  Shooting any (particularly high end) tequila is practically a sin in Mexico.
