Football Sunday

My heart was singing this morning while Sky and I were watching the ESPN pre-game show.  The announcers where on air talking about stuff and they cut to game film showcasing a players running ability.  Sky was sitting next to me playing with her little laptop (does not have internet...all she can really do is play with the calculator...sounds lame, but she loves it!) and as soon as the game footage started she started bouncing up a down with a huge grin on her face and threw her arms up in the air yelling football!

My work here is done.  ;-)

We are pretty excited around here because the Steelers game is actually on TV today...two weekends in a row!!!

It's been a busy/crazy few days with plans being changed and/cancelled only to be replaced with new plans.  All too much to get into here.

Some pics from the week...

She loves sitting with Daddy and playing on her little laptop while he is using his.

We had a free pass to Fantasy Lights at Spanaway Park, and since our dinner with the Beckham's was rescheduled due to sickness we all decided to drive through at the same time since germs don't truck hop.  Sky was having fun waving at the other cars, but don't think she was as impressed with the lights as we were.  She did get really excited about the snowman kicking a field goal though...my little football fan!  One of those rare times that she gets to sit in the front seat with us.

Sky sitting with Daddy and helping him drive!

She has started using her fave blanket as a cape and running around the living room like super girl!

 Loves her little table.

Thankful Thursday

I'm thankful Sky is still napping, 2 1/2 hours, that is long for her!

Nice thing is I got stuff done and had time to do fun stuff like read NW Runner, check email etc.

Given I'm feeling a little stressed about how busy things are going to be the rest of the week/weekend it's nice to have unexpected down time!

Now, I really do need her to wake up though because I have one more errand that has to be taken care of today!

Sky's First Race!!!

Yep that's right, I figured after chasing her around the house and yard day after day that she is probably close to 3 ish miles a day of running from Mommy.  Her new running shoes are perfectly broken in so she should be good to go!  December 15th she will join me in the Santa Runs Tacoma 5K.  It will be an automatic PR for both of us since it's her first race and my first race with her.

I suppose I could have signed her up for the Tiny Tim's 1K, but why not go big the first time right?!

I just hope I don't have any jogging stroller flat tires the morning of the race.  You didn't think I was making her actually run the race did you? :)  Although, if she were running it and I were chasing her I probably would PR!

I don't know when I'll stop saying never in regards to my running life, but I never intended or wanted to run races with her in the stroller.  Enter the stroller running group, and leading the charge for a group of stroller running mommies to run the race together!  So, yep I'm running my very first race ever with Sky, did I mention it's a course I have mental health issues with?!  Oh well.  I will be with friends and will have new music going, and Sky to distract me.

Last race of the year with Michelle, Sky, Stroller Mommies (actually I don't think any of the other stroller mom's have registered yet...I may be the only one), and our friend Alex's first 5K...sounds like a great last race of the year to me!  Looking forward to it!

Link Love - A Mighty Girl

If you are the parents of a girl this site is a must!  I'm bummed that I just found out about it this morning, wish I had known about it a long time ago.  I love it so much it's going on the blog the same day!!!

Check it out...you will either agree with the philosophy and love it, or you won't and that's fine.  I happen to love it!

On Being a Mommy

Or rather being a stay at home mommy.

I get asked often if I still like being a SAHM (stay at home mom), what has changed, is it what I thought it would be, do I miss work...there are more but these are the big ones.  I don't mind the questions because it reminds me to step back and make sure I mean my answer before I give it.  Little moments of self and life evaluation.

Do I still like being a stay at home mom?  - Yes, a thousand times yes.  I get to spend my days with this amazing little person that keeps me on my toes and teaches me things I love about myself, and teaches me things I'm not so thrilled with.  I love seeing her grow and learn, watching her problem solve and interact with others.   I laugh more now than I ever have in my life.  She cracks me up with her antics, her kindness, and even her Harrison jealousy.  One of my favorite things is watching her develop her friendship with Reagan.  Kids are so honest in their love, anger, selfishness, joy, politeness...our little people don't fake it.  It's so clear what Sky and Reagan are feeling towards each other.  I love seeing them work through it when they are not happy with each other, and I love the sheer joy when they are excited to see each other and run full speed at each other.

I'm thankful I get to see the full depth of Sky's personality and emotions all day every day!

What has changed? - Everything and nothing.  I honestly don't think about LBS (life before Sky).  I always liked being home, snuggled in my house hanging with Mark and Bishop. Now I like it even more.  The thought of being out all night partying has zero appeal to me.  For one, Sky wakes up at 7 am no matter what time I choose to go to bed.  I feel like it is my privilege to give her the best me I possible can every day, and being out late having fun does not make for great mommy moments the next day.  I kinda have to force myself to have balance and do non-mommy things like Dodgeball, Tuesday night runs with Michelle, my IRB meetings, Drinks with the girls after they are off work etc.

I have changed some of my TV viewing habits.  Eliminating shows like the new 90210 (I grew up on the old 90210 so was naturally drawn to the new one, but really what HS student has million dollar trust funds and lives in their own mansion without parental supervision?!) zero values on that show that I want Sky to have.  Toddlers and Tiara's is another one.  It's like a car accident on the freeway...you don't want to look, but can't help but too look when channel flipping.  That show makes me ill and again nothing there that I want Sky to value, so if she can't watch it, I won't watch it.  Of course Mark and I have shows we watch that are not kid friendly, like Walking Dead, so we do have some balance.  But, I make an effort to eliminate "tabloid" TV in general.

I have also changed what magazines I allow in the house.  In Style, Lucky, and Allure are all gone.  I'm contemplating dumping Shape and Self as well.  In Style was a hard one to give up, but bottom line is I don't want to hide my magazines from Sky, and I don't want her thinking she needs to 1) look like models in magazines to be beautiful 2) that cloths/jewelry/makeup make a person who they are 3) that we are going to afford the latest and greatest brand name or trend.  Even if we can afford it, it doesn't mean we are going to.

One of the things I'm most thankful to my parents for was raising me to be self confident and feel good about myself.  Do I think I'm the skinniest, prettiest, smartest, greatest girl out there?  Nope.  But, I have pretty much always been ok with what I see in the mirror and with who I am.  I feel good about myself inside and out, even though there are things that could be "fixed".  I really want that for Sky.  I want her to know that while she isn't perfect, she is beautiful and that she can be anything she wants to be and accomplish anything she sets her mind and talents to.

I don't feel like the majority of today's marketing (especially print ads) lends itself to helping people feel good about themselves.  So, we have chosen to limit how much of it Sky has access to and is exposed to.  Good bye old magazines and welcome Nat Geo, Sunset, cooking and running magazines.  Also, another reason shows like 90210 are no good...all based on looks and fluff.

Is it what I thought it would be? - I'm not sure what exactly I thought it would be before we had her.  I was dead set on taking my 12 weeks of leave and going back to work.  We had toured our day care of choice and were feeling good about our decision.  I never even thought about being a SAHM for longer than my leave.  So, I can only assume I thought it would not be fun or great or whatever.

18 months in and I find it to be the most fulfilling and satisfying thing I have ever done!  It's not just the Mommy part of it either.  It's making new friends like Jodi, being able to coordinate the stroller running group, meeting Mark for lunch when we are able.  It is a lot busier than I thought it would be, I put a lot of effort into socializing and getting her out of the house for a change of pace.  I don't feel like we are over booked at all, but it's a busy little life Sky has.  When we are home it's a scramble to get chores done during the 1 nap a day she is taking...boy do I miss that 2nd nap!

Do I miss work?  -  If you mean waking up to an alarm, punching a clock and sitting at a desk all day, no I don't miss it at all.  I do miss some of my co-workers, and I liked the HR world, but I don't miss it.  But, I still work.  My job now is to save us money when and where I can, keep a clean house and take care of and love the 4 other living beings in my home.  Those are the basics, a lot goes into making all that happen.  :)

Yep, I love being a SAHM!

Busy Few Days

Lack of posting due to living life, not posting about it.  :)  Sometimes we are just having too much fun to stop and post about it.

Thursday - I was thankful that we had an unexpected play date with Jodi, Reagan, and Harrison.  I pretty much invited myself over and told Jodi what to make me via Pinterest.  She's a good enough friend to go long!  :)

(Also, I needed to not run to rest my hip, but would have run because I'm dumb like that, so was glad she texted.  I went into the Dodgeball playoffs Wednesday night with a lot of pain and took a hit to the leg that set off waves of muscle spasms from hip to knee.  I plaid through it, but by the time I got home was kinda hating life.)

We, I mean Jodi, made PB&J muffins and the girls played.

...PB&J Muffins...I thought they were good, even better the next day!

Snack time...don't they look like I caught them doing something naughty?!

Reagan is making sure Sky is hydrated!

Friday - Sky and I went to Michelle's (different Michelle) to make our Christmas gifts in jars gifts.  It took all day but we ended up with yummy stuff and useful stuff!  I was wore out by the time Sky and I got home to start our girls weekend.  (Mark was out of town for a guy weekend.)  No pics of that because I forgot the camera and don't want to give away the gifts before I have a chance to give them to people.

I did get to spend some good quality time with my Christmas gift Friday after Sky went to bed...

My new laptop with Windows 8!

My old laptop, which was a netbook which means it was small, the size of a book basically, was dying a slow death.  It had been through a lot, I mean a lot...from cups of hot honey tea being dumped on it, to traveling all over with us, to crashes to the floor.  It was time to upgrade.

Small example of why the netbook needed replace...see the screen cracking open and pulling away from the case?

Windows 8 is different, really different, but I'm totally getting the hang of it.  No, it's not a touch screen monitor and everyone says if you don't have touch screen Windows 8 is pointless, but I'm totally fine with it.  Not having any issues and think it is a bit easier to open and use without reading any instructions.

Saturday - Went to a Holiday Bazar at Grace's school with the Beckham's and Michelle's sis in law and two nieces.  They just moved here from Texas!  After that we all went to Fleet Feet so Michelle and I could register for the Santa Runs Tacoma 5K, and so I could pick up my new GPS watch.  Then got a call from Mark saying he may need me to come get him because he was so sick he couldn't drive, but needed to come home.  So headed to the Beckham's to grab a quick bite to eat, and wait and see if Mark was going to attempt driving, which he did and eventually made it home safe and sound.

Sunday - Started the day with El running 5 Mile Drive.  Since she is post 1/2, had new shoes on, and is having some pretty good knee pain and my hip was killing me we walked more than ran, but I'm ok with that.  I was just glad to be out there running as we could and catching up. Plus I got to test drive the Garmin Forerunner 10, and let her test drive my old NB GPS watch.

Came home, cleaned up and headed to Cabela's with Mark and Sky, then came home and watched football.  Was pretty tense through the Steelers game, but so glad they pulled off a win!  Batch is the best back-up QB ever!!!

Busy few days, but tis the season.  We have more busy days ahead but it includes fun times with fun people, so not complaining.

Hope you all had a great weekend!!!
