My weekend starts in just about 3 hours. I am leaving work early to meet Mark at home, hook up the trailer, meet Bob and Michelle and head to West Port for a long weekend of camping!
I love getting out of town, turning off the phone, the computer, the TV!, and enjoying time with good friends.
Bob, Michelle and I did all the grocery shopping last night and have all the meals planned so we know who is cooking what each day. Let's just say that just because we are camping does not mean we have simple meals...Sheppard's pie, BBQ shrimp, marinated steak, baked oatmeal, gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches, and lots of cocktails are all on the menu!
I will have to take a lot of long walks with Bishop to work it all off!
Amongst all the fun this weekend we will take a moment to appreciate the freedom we have in this country and the price that was paid for that freedom. While I don't think war is ok, I can still appreciate the fact that through the years many, many people have given their lives so that we can enjoy ours!

New Shoes

Closed Doors
Some closed doors are important and some not so much in the grand scheme of things.
Two closed doors on back to back nights - Lost and 24.
Lost: I loved it! It was the perfect ending to a 6 year adventure that I still don't totally understand. I understand enough though and think I understand the import things that I wanted to. I smiled, I laughed, and I cried.
24: I have watched from the beginning. Yes, season after season got a little predictable and it was basically the same story over and over just with different bad guys every season. But I love Jack, and if I am ever in a jam I want him on my side. The final scene with him looking up and saying Thank You killed me.
I guess the upside is that every time one of the shows we watch ends we are very careful to not add another one to replace it. If we do add another show to watch we make sure it fits into our life and won't take us away from other more important things. (DVR makes it way too easy to record a ton of lets just say crap! I like being pretty selective in my TV viewing. Having said that Mark will be the first to tell you I have my guilty little secret show(s) that I watch.)
A literal closed door: For whatever reason I can't stand looking at the nursery right now. I love it, it is beautiful, but it depresses me to look in at an empty nursery every day. The nursery is the central bedroom in the house...I have to look at it every time I enter or leave the house, every time I walk from the kitchen to the living room, every time I need to go to the bathroom or the office...I have to walk by the nursery. So I closed the door. Yes I know what is behind the door, but right now I can't handle looking at it all the time.

Weekend Update
For the first weekend in a while, and the last for some time, we had zero plans! It was the perfect weekend to get to know our new washer and dryer, pictured below. Verdict is...so far I love them! The washer takes a bit longer, but spins the cloths so well that they are almost dry when they go into the dyer, which means it only takes about 30 minutes to dry a load of laundry. Plus, they make very little noise!
We spent some time Saturday running around getting a few things for the trailer and our camping trip this coming weekend.
Sunday I spent the whole day cooking chicken for African Chicken Peanut soup. It was all made from scratch...the only thing I didn't do was butcher the chicken myself. :) I loved using my own home-made chicken stock...made the soup taste so much better!
We watched the Lost Finale last night. Our whole day was geared towards being ready to sit down and watch starting at 7pm. We have watched every episode at least once, in some cases twice. What a great finale. Did it answer all the questions...no, did it answer enough of them...I think so. I love that they were all reunited at the end and that it leaves room for personal interpretation. I am sad it is over as it is one of the very few shows Mark and I watch together and I fell in love with some of the characters. I'm sort of glad all the wondering from week to week is over though. I have never spent so much time thinking about a TV show before!
Totally random tip of the day: Use dry shampoo to create texture and volume!
I read in Allure that you can use dry shampoo to create that beachy bed-head texture and/or to add volume to your every day style.
Directions:
Style as usual then flip head upside down and spray on roots. This obviously only works if you are using an aerosol dry shampoo (the one I use is shown below). If you are using a powder dry shampoo I recommend putting some on your finger and then rubbing into the roots of your hair. (Just be careful as dry shampoo can look like dandruff if you use too much).
I have only been using dry shampoo while camping, but I tried it this morning and it really does work! Love it!

New Washer and Dryer!
I'm not sure if being excited about a new washer and dryer makes me old, or very adult, but I am excited.
Mark worked from home today so he could be there for the delivery and he has been emailing telling me how nice they look, and how quick the dryer was. I can't wait to get home so I can check them out for myself.
Our old dyer took to drying cycles to completely dry a load and the washer had started skipping the spin cycle, so we had to play with it to get it to work, or on one occasion hand-wring the cloths so I could put them in the dyer.
It was time for new ones!

Meat Loaf Follow Up
I completely forgot to mention not to fill the muffin tins all the way to the top with the meat loaf. I did that the first time and ended up with overflowing tins dripping grease all over the oven, and then having to clean the oven.
Two ways to fix that problem...don't fill to the top, cook with leaner meat, put a cookie sheet under the muffin tins or on the rack below the muffin tins while cooking. Ok...that is three options. :)
