Thankful Thursday

Today I'm thankful that being a SAHM (stay a home mom) offers me the opportunity to practice patience (even though I'm pretty sure there is someone in my life that would say there is still great room for improvement here), not overreact, and has improved my deep breathing.   

I'm also thankful I'm not in a cast as well after she unleashed on me with her cast in the grocery store.  It took two strangers to help both of us sort ourselves out after her little episode.  

Something you never want to hear anyone, even if a perfect stranger, say about your child..."What a horrible little girl". 

And really that is all you need to know about how today has been.

Thankfully most days are like this, and not like today.

Hero's

On a day when most are remembering those lost and the hero's that brought the nation hope I find it hard to post about "normal" life stuff. 

Instead of talking about where I was and how I felt I thought it was fitting to recognize some hero's that are working hard today to put out the Mt. Diablo fire. 

Mt. Diablo is a part of my sisters daily running life, and it's a special part of my running life because my first run with my sister was a few weeks ago on the mountain. 

I'm thankful they are working hard to save the mountain, homes, and lives that could be impacted by loosing everything in a fire. 

Please take a look at THIS link for more pictures of their efforts and the conditions they are working in.  It's hot on that mountain without a fire! 

And, to echo my sister I'm shocked and disgusted that someone would break into two of the fire stations and steal their personal belongings out of their lockers.  There is a special place for despicable people like that and hope they end up there soon!

There are lots of great pics of Sky and all her cousins...I know some family members have been waiting to see them!

Sky and Aunt Kim running on the beach in Santa Barbara.  First thing Sky did was strip off her clothes and take off running, and it's so Kim to take off with her!  Two free spirits!!!

 

Every night in the hotel the first thing she did was go for the phone.  We finally had to start unplugging them so she wouldn't call China. 

This is just us shopping in Santa Barbara.  I'm not sure what she was doing, but I love the look on her face.

Umm yep...that is what a lot of the "trail" up was like.  Steep, little footing, and bolted chain to hold onto.

Ok, I think I have it out of my system now...I won't keep posting vacation pictures I promise!  

 

Negative Splits!!!

That never happens for me, like never!!!  But, it did tonight!!!  2.88 (I forgot to start my watch until I was a few blocks in) miles all under 9:31 and each one faster than the one before.  I needed 5, but I can't hang with the 5 mile group for 5 miles at a sub 8 pace, so decided to run with the 3 mile group instead.  I'm willing to push hard for 3 miles. 

It was hard towards the end but I got it done. Skipped compression and my shins were hurting.  A few other things were hurting too, hip, knee, foot.  I really feel like it was a combo of slacking on the foam roller the last few days, and not wearing the Boost shoes.  I still have two new (ish) pairs of good running shoes that have about 400 miles each to go before they are dead.  So I'm rotating through all 3 and saving the Boost for the long runs.  But, man the other shoes just don't feel as good as they did pre-Boost!

Play To Learn started up again today.  It was all about apples.  Sky examined her slices under the magnifying glass for about two seconds and then started chowing down.  She did great though, especially during circle/singing time.  She has never liked that part very much in the past, but this time around she was in to it.  I have been singing her two favorite songs all summer though, so she was excited to hear them in class today.  

Stroller run in the morning and I'll admit I'm looking forward to running stroller pace.  :)

The Only Way to Watch Football...

Before I do a regular post I just have to say my thoughts are with my sister, the firefighters, and all those impacted by the Mt. Diablo fire.  I can't believe that a few weeks ago I was running right where the fire is with my sister.  So sad.

P.S. My sister and her family are safe, they can see the Mt. and the fire from their house, but are safe. 

...On the deck outside while Sky is playing = two happy girls!  Love that the TV is watchable from outside! 

What you don't see is my feet up and the drink in my hand!

  She was so happy to be outside playing with the dog's (we are dog sitting for the parents).

 

 

So looking forward to Mark coming home from hunting tonight.  He rode with Bob there, so his truck has been in the driveway.  The problem with that is anytime Sky sees his truck in the driveway she screams "Daddy's Home"!  She was so mad this morning when we came home and he wasn't here. 

 

We are celebrating him being home and Monday Night Football doubleheader with wine, steak, and mushroom risotto.  One of our favorite meals!  

Living Room

Interesting...I didn't actually post this on the blog.  I have a Polyvore account so I can put idea boards together for different rooms etc.  I feel like the living room needs more color so was just putting things on the board that I liked.  I had no idea it linked to the blog!  Funny.
