My Dream Job

So I have a secret to share, no I didn't get a new job, but I have had the same dream job stuck in my head for most of my life...and have never told a sole about it. Why now? Well everyone I know keeps asking me what I think should be done about a certain QB issue in Pittsburgh, and if only someone from the Steelers office would call and ask my opinion I would be on my way to having my dream job!

I want to be the person that gets the call when there is a tough decision to make, like who should QB while Ben is out, or should we go for it on 4th down, or who should be our first pick in the draft...you get the idea. I don't want to live in Pittsburgh (however if they ever offered me a job I would move in a second...hope Mark is ok with that) but I would be happy to be available 24/7 by phone.

This is truly a dream job because I'm pretty sure no football team keeps a "Phone Consultant/All Knowing Fan" on staff, but if they did I would so be the perfect person for the job, for the Steelers at least!!!

To answer the question as to who should QB the team while Ben is out (and by the way I would NOT be sad to see Ben traded, but that is a whole other post) I pick Batch. Why Batch, well he knows the playbook inside out and has successfully lead the team in the past while Ben has been out with injuries, and actually he pre-dates Ben. He has longevity and the guys respect him. (I think they would respect anyone that does not create drama at this point, but I digress).

I was pretty happy to see Leftwich back to help us out, he did a good job when Ben had the motorcycle accident, so I was feeling pretty good about him being back. But, I must say, not thrilled with what I have seen from him this year, nor with the reports from training camp.

I was hopeful that Dixon would be exciting and good, but I just don't think he is ready. This is the Steelers people and Dixon does not have the experience or maturity to lead the team for 4 to 6 games. You can't hand over a team with the history and talent of the Steelers to someone who may be exciting to watch but is not rock solid reliable. Lets face it we had exciting and flashy with Stewart and that didn't last long (for some of us it lasted a little too long!).

Which brings me back to Batch...he is one of the few back-up QB's that I think is able to lead the team for as long as needed. (I have always felt better about Batch than a lot of other back-ups in the NFL!) I have never seen him flustered or unsure of what to do when he is on the field. The team will play for him, and you can put Mr. Excitement Dixon in for those gadget plays here and there as needed, and if they call me during the game I will let them know when that is.

I will be sitting by the phone waiting for it to ring. In the meantime Here We Go Steelers, Here We Go!!!!

Weekend Update

What a busy weekend! But it was a lot of fun. It started Friday night with Kaleena’s 25th b-day party. I think Michelle, Mark and I had more fun that she did…her night ended at 11 with her drunk in bed, while the three of us went out dancing at the Swiss.

Saturday we slept in, tooled around town a bit, test drove a car (no we are not getting a new car right now) just doing our homework for when we are ready for a new car, then met Bob and Michelle and the girls at the park. Josh, Dev and Alexa joined us and we all ended up back at our place bbq’ing and watching the Hawks play the Vikings.

Sunday I had my first fantasy football draft of the season (I have two more to go) and Michelle and I headed to the bar to meet some of the peeps from out Battle Of The Sex’s league. This is a new group of people for us and prior to last night we only knew one other person in the league. I will say that drafting live with other people from the league was a lot of fun, but way more distracting than being at home! I think I want to win in this league more than the other two, but probably had the worst draft I have ever had, so will be interesting to see what happens.

Can’t wait to get this week over with! We leave Sunday for Whistler and I can’t wait to chill Canadian style!

2010 Lakewood Scavenger Hunt

Sunday was the second annual Lakewood Scavenger Hunt that raises money for Team Schulte with 100% of the proceeds going to the Relay For Life of Lakewood. Mark and I started a team last year, The Goonies, and had a blast at the Lakewood Town Center. This years event was at Ft. Steilacoom Park and the team had 3 new members! Mark helped Josh organize the event and was the photographer, so he couldn't very well participate, Reggie had foot surgery and couldn't come back and the other member...it is a long story that I don't want to get into. So I started recruiting and right away got Michelle and Cara to join me. We were one person short for a long time until Mark talked to one of his co-workers, Kimi, and she agreed to be on the team. What a great addition she was.

There were 4 aspects of the hunt: 1. Trivia 2. Photos 3. Items to be found and 4. little red dice that had been place all over the park and for each one found by the team it was 2 extra points!

We had 3 hours to complete as many things as we could and let me tell you it was not easy! The park is huge and we were running most of the day, and enjoyed every last minute of it.

The best part was The Goonies won!!! We rocked it! We each won a gift card and a golden hockey stick that we hold on to until next year and then keep it again because we will win again! It was only $20 per person to participate and worth every penny. We will for sure be back next year, and plan to help Josh make it even bigger and better!

Michelle, Cara, Kimi and I waiting to get started.

Our first photo...all 4 team members in an outhouse.

Second photo...3 team members laying stacked on top of each other head to toe. Best quote of the day from Kimi, "I'm so sorry Jen...I just met you."

Most fun photo of the day...we had to get a photo with one of the many soccer teams that was playing...bonus points if they let us put their jerseys on for the photo. Let's just say only the all girl team was able to pull this off, plus we waited until the game was over to ask so we didn't interrupt anything important. As a side note...those jerseys were disgustingly sweaty and wet!

We had to take a photo of the entire team loitering in the tunnel that goes from the park to Western State Hospital. We are tossing the dice we kept finding everywhere and pretending to drink a 40.

And now for the winning total.....

The Goonies led every category but one and that one we tied in, so no one really had a chance against us. :)

Realizing that we just won!
A big thank you to Kimi for joining a team when she didn't know any of us, for having tons of energy and water to hydrate us, for sabotaging the other teams efforts by hiding items we knew they needed, for climbing that tree like you were spider woman, for convincing the soccer team to give us their jerseys, and for just being a lot of fun!
What a fun day and I can't wait to defend out title next year!!!

Zumba!

I went to my first Zumba class last night since the concussion. For some reason I have just not felt ready to go back and every time I did think about it I got a little scared. Maybe it is an internal self preservation thing, but I am glad I waited.

Class was great. I forgot some of the steps, but the hip action was still there. My scar hurt a little after class and I felt a little pressure in the area I was kicked, but other than that I felt great and am happy to be back to Zumba.

I'm guessing that if I had very minor side effects last night, that it is probably a good thing I had a feeling I should wait.

Still can't believe that 8 weeks later I'm still having little twinges here and there. I will say it again...I don't know how pro athletes come back so quickly after concussions!

Right this moment I am so thankful that Mark and I don't have crazy ups and downs. I will take nice and steady any day! Love you babe!

Football!!!

I am so excited that football season is here! I know it is "just" pre-season, but it is still football! I love getting up Sunday morning and making a nice hot breakfast and settling in on the couch in my pj's for a day of football. I love watching the pre-game shows and doing a last minute injury check on my fantasy teams. I really love it that Mark knows Sunday is football day and never hassles me about doing nothing but watching football all day!

Yesterday was the Steelers first pre-season game and I was so excited to find the game on satellite radio yesterday as we were headed to a party. Got to listen to the first half. I'm glad they won and can't wait to watch their game next Saturday. I need to see for myself what I think about our QB situation and see how the new guys are looking.

I spent a good 3 hours today working on my fantasy football draft strategy. I am in 3 leagues this year...only did two last year and that was a lot, but couldn't pass up an opportunity to be in a new league and see how it goes. Anyway...I think I have a solid plan and can't wait to get the season started...I have a good feeling about my chances in fantasy football this year.

Totally off topic, but I should so be an announcer...I say what they should be saying about 20 seconds before they say it! We are watching the Cin/Den game and I am so much better than these announcers...should just watch the game on mute and let me do my own commentary!

Anyway...Here We Go Steelers, Here We Go!!!

End of Softball

Last night was the end of the softball season. I still have mixed emotions about softball. Part of me was a little thankful I had a legit excuse not to play after seeing how good some of my teammate are. Another part of me was really bummed that I didn’t have the opportunity to practice and learn from those players and make improvement over the season.

Of all the sports we have played softball is the sport we got better at the fastest. The other sports took us until playoffs to figure it out, but with softball after the first couple of weeks of practices we were at the top of the league and looking good going into playoffs.

Playoffs were last night and it was exciting! It was a three game back-to-back format with each game lasting 6 innings or 60 minutes whichever came first. The first game was forfeited as the other team didn’t have enough players. So we split our team, sent some to the other side, and played a few innings so we could at least warm up before the next game. Game two was fun to watch and we ended up winning which put us in the championship game.

This was the big test right here…did we have enough practice and skill to pull it off? The Lose Wheels are a good team and I think only had one lose all season, which was to us. They scored 3 runs the top of the first inning, but with strong defense and good hitting we made it back and went into the 6th inning up 7 to 3. Bottom of the 6th, they are up to bat with 2 outs, we get the last out and we win! But, somehow they manage to tie the game up by scoring 4 runs with only one out to work with. We finally get the 3rd out and are headed into extra innings, but we are feeling good because it is the top of our batting order. Well…the top of our order went down 1, 2, 3 just like that with no scores. Bottom of the 7th inning they score the winning run. It was a heartbreaker to say the least.

I will say though that there have been losses this season that were painful to watch from the bench, but this game was exciting, we were playing well, everyone put their best effort into it and for once I didn’t mind sitting on the bench watching.

It was fun being able to still be part of the team by keeping stats, and I learned a new skill. Not sure how many times I will need to keep stats in my life, but now I know how. I am now really looking forward to our next sport, Dodgeball in October and can’t wait for the next Softball go-round. I plan an asking for some extra one-on-one practice with a few of the players that have coached before and really know what they are doing. Then I will feel more confident about playing…that and visiting the batting cages in the off season.

Good Job Son’s of Pitches…it was a fun season with new friends made.

Weekend Birthday Camping

Grace turned 4 last week and wanted a weekend camping trip to celebrate her birthday. So we headed to Westport with Bob and Michelle and Robert and Fran (Bob's parents) for a weekend of rainy camping.

Michelle and I decided we needed wine as soon as possible, but I failed...the cork screw broke off in the cork. Thankfully my handy hubby was able to fix it for us!

Campfire the second night...the boys took all the little girls to the beach for a fire while Michelle and I chilled in camp with Kiera.

Since I forgot the steaks we were supposed to have for dinner we decided to give crabbing a try and see if we could catch our dinner. At one point Michelle had Grace convinced that she had to get in to the crab pot, we would lower her into the water, and she had to catch all the crabs by hand. Her only questions was, is the water too deep?

Grace in her jump suit ready to crab.

Yummy cake.

Time for the presents!

Grace, Katie, Kiera, Madeeha.

Kiera so happy!

Mark and I...my hair and my jacket clash!!!!

Weekend BBQ

We usually find time for at least one BBQ during the summer, ours was last Saturday. Lot's of good good, drinks, friends and fun.

I have no idea what Bob is trying to do to Dave...don't really want to know either.

Our crowded deck.

Grace LOVES her bubbles!

Mark can grill anything...I mean anything. We had grilled peaches for dessert...so yummy! We topped them with Cinnamon and brown sugar.

Hanging out with Alexa...she just woke up from a 20 min power nap.

I love it that he wears his Steelers shirt all the time! :)

Kiera loves the bubbles as well.

My new hair. It is a little darker and a lot more red than I was expecting...but I like it. Will see how long it lasts...my hair does not hold red very well.
